MODIFIED S.U. STARTER CARBURETTER TO PREVENT FREEZING UP.

Please receive herewith :-

E.CD.1386 Modifications to S.U. Starter Carburetter to prevent freezing - B.V.

As reported by Experimental Department, trouble is experienced by the freezing up of the suction disc and its spring when starting B.V. cars on a day when the atmosphere is moisture laden and cool. This appears to be due to the drop in temperature of the in-coming air when expanding after passing the suction disc small area opening, and freezing of the moisture condensed from the air at the same time.

To avoid ice forming on the spring, we have removed it altogether from inside the expansion chamber to where it obviously cannot freeze up.

To reduce the risk of the suction disc freezing, we have lowered it on the needle to reduce the volume of the expansion chamber, this volume could be further reduced as indicated on the design, by a slight alteration to the machining of the floatchamber casting if required.

There are only four new small parts required for this experiment, and they are all produced from bar material.

Will you therefore please detail and instruct for the experiment.
