RE CYLINDER BORER - NO.3 Head (CHAMBERING.)

Re the scheme for stopping the feed after one revolution. - This is accomplished by means of spring plunger carrying a fork which actuates the clutch. The roller in the end of the plunger bears on one of the 5" spindles, into which is cut a recess that the roller can run into, thus disengaging the driving clutch and engaging the stop clutch.

To start the feed, the plunger has to be pulled out by means of the handle shewn and has to be kept out until the recess in the 5" spindle has passed the roller. The method of keeping the plunger out is by means of the lever which is forced up by the small spring plunger. The lever engages the plunger until it is pushed down by a projection of the 5" spindle.

For ease in making, the projection is formed by milling a groove nearly the whole way round the 5" spindle - the remaining portion acting on the lever.

The groove does not interfere with plunger roller, as the roller is wider than the groove.
