R.R. 235A (150 H) (W.W. 43S. 17-6-14) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 0626. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} for R.{Sir Henry Royce} 2.7.14. El/G2714 Contd. -2- taken at front and back - wear taken up by inserting thicker washer. End play for eccentric shaft is taken up by the nut at the front which can be adjusted by means of the tongued washer to give .0005" end play. The casting for the 5" spindle is in one piece, the three spindle bearings and worm spindle bearing are all in one plane, for convenience of boring. The idea of having a single casting is to form an oil bath for the worm gear and a chip and dust cover for gears and spindles. The bearings for the worm spindle can readily be bored at the correct centre distance and at right angles to spindles. The universal joints are as schemed for the Self Starter. The Chain Gear Box is made up of three castings so that the outer ones can be packed out for chain adjustment. The middle one is to be connected to the main head by the steel framework.
