The trouble did not occur on 'V' series because by good fortune the jaw of the rod from r. {Sir Henry Royce} to the front brake equaliser shaft provided a stop by toggling. It is no use putting a stop on the T. piece so- because the rear pull off springs are not strong enough to overcome the friction and move the swinging link unless they have to assist them the 2-1 leverage provided when the whole T. piece pivots about r. {Sir Henry Royce}

STOP

Therefore in order to make the swinging link function and get the benefit of the friction for reducing brake thumps we must have a stop which will prevent the front brake ropes slacking off through excessive movement of point r. {Sir Henry Royce} on the T. piece.
