moderate supercharged engine which had fitted to it the gas starter in the new position and cylinders with the forged base plates.

The cylinders with the forged base plates are not altogether a success. We have had trouble with leaks at the joint to the base plate and as we have yet to have a failure of the cylinder in the T.50 Alloy. At the moment we are not proceeding with the cylinders with base plates.

We have had some engines in service which have now run 325 hours without any serious trouble. The engine is simply being taken down in the R.A.F. workshops for overhaul as a routine job.

We have run a type test and a large number of hours on development work with the hardened splines for the reduction gears and these have been one qualified success.

As regards the Compression Ignition unit, we shall be able to bring the results of this along when we see you.

We have taken a large number of tests and our max. B.M.E.P. has been 72 lbs which from indicator diagrams which have been taken should give an I.M.E.P. of 108 lbs. We are arranging, however, at the moment to drive the engine so that we can obtain accurately the mechanical efficiency of the unit.

A large number of indicator and pump line diagram have been taken and there will be quite a lot of information to discuss with you.
