| FROM E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. to HS. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re. 'Y' METAL PISTONS. X4004 Since it is understood that the experimental 'Y' metal pistons to drawing LeC. 2476. are cracked and unusable, this will cancel experimental stiffener LeC. 2493. If it is found after test that the pistons - LeC. 2490. - which have the single type of stiffener, are unsatisfactory, then these same pistons can be altered to take the double type of stiffener, but until the single type is approved no further steps need be taken with LeC. 2493. The former in effect provides a piston skirt which is tapered when cold as the upper portion of the skirt, having vertical slits, only, has to be provided with a large clearance. The latter on the other hand has the effect of a parallel skirt. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
