Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 2/R.7.8.39. AXLE RATIOS FOR THE 'CORNICHE(Bentley streamline(Experimental Streamline Bentley B.23.A.E)d precursor to R Type Continental, never produced)'. Tests in France have indicated that in order to get directional stability we may go to a larger size of tyre on the 'Corniche(Bentley streamline(Experimental Streamline Bentley B.23.A.E)d precursor to R Type Continental, never produced)'. If we do use a larger size of tyre, we shall want a 10 x 41 axle ratio. We cannot come to a definite decision yet as the tests have not been completed. We think it necessary, however, that six sets of 10 x 41 gears should be put in hand forthwith to suit the semi-floating axle. For the time being we do not want to alter the specification of the cars being built, and these should be fitted with 11 x 41 gears as instructed. Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
