| To D.R. From E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to C.R. " " BN. {W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} " " HS. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} CK. {Mr Clark} X.3534 RE STARTING MOTOR FOR "GOSHAWK(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))" ORIGINAL We send you herewith drawing No. LeC.1214 shewing a single train reduction gear for the above motor fitted with a safety slipping clutch. This should be substituted for the double train epicyclic sent to you some time ago. The armature is now located endways by the bearing nearer to the engine foot, and a modification has been made to the rear end of the motor to accomplish this. The advantage of using the rear bearing is that it allows the motor to be more easily dismantled. It is desired that the motor should now be placed with its carcase directly opposite to the centre line of No.5 cylinder, as shewn on this drawing, which means that the cradle has to be moved forward .375" approximately.
