| 606. To By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /AFM. {Anthony F. Martindale} c. Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /AFM. {Anthony F. Martindale} 6/AP.6.1.38. WRAITH BRAKES. We have had a case of seizure of the pin joints of the double joint of the idler lever GW.930, shown on R.Sch. 4857. You will recollect that we had a case of seizure of the pins on the corresponding lever on Ph.III. These pins seem particularly exposed to mud and water and so we have made and fitted a shield to protect them. We will report, in due course, on its behaviour. We have noticed that the ball joints on the bell cranks on the yokes, although equally exposed, have remained quite free. It would be possible to use another ball on the bell crank in place of the double joint at the cost of handing the bell crank. We think this point is worth remembering for future designs.
