BENTLEY 111 - REAR AXLE PINION BEARINGS. It is clear we need a better bearing, and your memo with its report on deflection indicates clearly the direction, but it would seem that Hdy {William Hardy} 's scheme should be better from the point of view of holding the preload, as in our present type the journal load falling on a small number of balls on an inclined surface tends in itself to disturb the balance of symmetry, whereas on Hdy {William Hardy} 's scheme the preload is maintained axially. It will be necessary to fit a roller bearing which has no running clearance, and depend on roller deflection for working clearance. BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} B.Y | ||
