| +4037 21st. Sept. 1928. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /RmS/LG. Messrs. Benton & Stone Ltd., Bracebridge Street, XXX Birmingham. Dear Sirs, We have received your latest filter and have had it on test for a month or so. We are pleased to see that you have narrowed the width of the filtering plates but should have preferred that the outside dia. had remained unchanged as this would have given us more area, which is always an asset in reducing intervals between cleaning. The dural plates certainly make a very light job; we are testing them exhaustively for corrosion etc. We rather fear that they may fail when there is water in the petrol. We note that the stud carrying the plates screws up against a stop before the plates come choc-a-bloc. The plates fill up the extra space by springing. We do not care for this as it makes the gap size irregular. We are therefore using a distance washer to make the stud screw up to exactly the same length as the plate column. So far the reduced width of filtering rim seems to have overcome our supply difficulty. We think that the aluminium sump is the best effort we have so far seen, but we think that it could be made still lighter as a pressing with a rib to take the thrust. In conclusion, we think that your filter is making excellent progress and propose to give it an extended Continental test at the end of the month. Yours faithfully. | ||
