Report on "Triumph" magnetic Petrol Tank Gauge. X.984 This gauge is to indicate the amount of petrol in the tank. It consists of a brass tube running from top to bottom of the tank with a small copper float inside the tube. There is a peg on the outside of the float which engages in a spiral slot which is cut in the brass tube so that as the float rises or falls it is compelled to revolve slowly, making one complete revolution between the full and empty positions of the tank. Vertically through the centre of the float a piece of flat section tube is fitted and this, in one with the float is free to slide up and down on a piece of flat strip brass, so that the brass strip turns with the float. At the top of the brass strip a small bar magnet is fixed and above the magnet is a thin brass cap so that the whole of the parts described above are sealed inside the tank. Directly above the magnet but outside the tank is a dial 1 1/4" dia. with a small floating pointer. The dial should be graduated to suit the particular tank to which it is fitted and the pointer is carried round by the pull of the magnet underneath. The instrument works fairly well and gives one a rough idea of the amount of petrol in the tank but is not | ||
