Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ltd.,

DERBY.

We may say that we have not received a similar complaint in regard to these Lamps and we do not anticipate that they will give trouble under normal touring conditions, but naturally, we are glad to take your experience into account and we think you will agree that the modification referred to will prevent the possibility of a similar recurrence in the future.

The other difficulty you experience namely, the reflector dithering at high speed, is a little more difficult to deal with if the Reflectors in question represent our standard specification, as the present dipper unit is not capable of operating satisfactorily with a heavier spring than that which is now fitted. It is of course, possible that these Lamps of which you complain may have weaker springs than they should and the writer would be glad of the opportunity of examining them as obviously the matter is a serious one.

Here again however, we have not received complaints under normal touring conditions and we do not think you need fear anything in the nature of an epidemic.

The lines we are working on at the moment to increase the factor of safety is to develop a more powerful dipper unit and the writer will keep you advised of our progress in this matter.

We thank you for your co-operation in these matters.

Yours faithfully,
JOSEPH LUCAS LIMITED.
