| GRY {Shadwell Grylls} X5310. To BY, from HDY. {William Hardy} HDY. {William Hardy} 1/HP.27.12.33. c. Wer. H. {Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} De. NHC. J.3. Gearbox - Adjustment of Top, 3rd and 2nd speed S.M. Cones. With regard to the eccentric adjustments for these cones as shown on GL. {G. Linnett} 688 and G.56303 and 15, we should prefer a steeper angle than 1 in 48 on the taper and suggest 1 in 6. Even with 1 in 6 we are doubtful whether the pins can be held sufficiently firmly to get the correct positions without being too tight to be turned. If it is found that the pins have to be knocked back, we think that the square and the screwdriver slot can be deleted, the maximum eccentricity being marked with a centre punch. We send herewith N. Sch's 3895 and 6 which show our proposals. On N. Sch.3896 we suggest that a taper pin be fitted, and in this case we think that the riveting of the bolt to secure the nut can be dispensed with. On N.Sch.3895 it will be seen that the window is provided for adjustment of the eccentric pin. We think that even if it is possible to turn the pin from the outside, it will be cheaper to ask for the removal of the rocking shaft for adjustment than to provide an opening.
