| X4190 H2/TB/26.11.23 S/W. {Sales / Derby Works} Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from H. {Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} copy to Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} Re:- PRE-WAR PISTONS & PISTON RING KNOCKS. BJ. has handed me a copy of E2/M22.11.23 to By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} ,and we shall be very glad to hear at an early date what is decided with regard to the Piston Knock complaints outstanding. We think that you or Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} should put up something in the way of an estimate of the cost of the method proposed by E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} or R. {Sir Henry Royce} , for getting over these complaints. You will understand that some of the complaints are chronic and will have to be cured at the expense of the Company. BJ. will most certainly require a quotation of the cost price for the fitting of aluminium pistons and all that they entail in the way of gudgeon pins, connecting rods, etc., some of which presumably will even have to have standardization sheets.
