| SWDL {Len H. Swindell} See me X5050 To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} C. By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} PN {Mr Northey} Mx. {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 20/25 Chassis Carburetter Air Valve. Referring to report Mx {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} 12/T.8.9.33 on the recent 100 hours test of certain modifications on the Tank engine, we think it would improve our 20/25 chassis carburetter to adopt the modification for preventing ingress of dust to the air valve. It is a simple modification and so far as we are aware does not mean any increase in cost in producing the carburetter. The six holes in the air valve body at present used for communicating the underside of the air valve chamber to the atmosphere are cancelled by this modification, and the required flow of air is obtained from within the upper part of the main air passage by a slight modification to the machining. No doubt you will require to test this alteration on a chassis but Mx. {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} has already done this to find out if there was any effect on the carburation in connection with the Tank engine, and finds that the result was entirely satisfactory. The number of the drawing shewing this modification is LeC. 3594. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
