| c. Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 804 CONFIDENTIAL. 15th.November 1938. BY.15/N. Messrs.Park Ward & Co.Ltd., 473, High Road, Willesden, London N.W.10. Dear Sirs, Re: Cost of Mock-up - B.50. We thank you for your GWW/JMV. of the 9th.inst. giving the estimated nett cost of the mock-up of B.50 including a horse at £550. The price rather staggered us until we appreciated that the mock-up as proposed by Mr.Ward is to serve two purposes:- (1) A mock-up of the car for us to see and approve. (2) A structural model of the body, the parts of which will be used as templates for the panels and framework. We had in mind a mock-up, which could be built quickly and cheaply, and which we could alter with rapidity and little cost. The major portion of the cost of the proposed mock-up results from making it to serve as a structural model, and our original purpose is defeated. We feel we ought to produce a mock-up quickly and inexpensively, in order to experiment with the appearance. Such mock-ups were produced by Mulliner's, Birmingham, for us and also Humbers, in wood and plywood in about fourteen days. Having done this it may be necessary to produce the structural model, but that will be a separate issue and form part of your production development programme. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. CHIEF ENGINEER - CHASSIS. | ||
