London. W.1.

Dear Sirs,

We note in your letter of the 29th. that you cannot conveniently fit your 42.D.V.I. downdraught carburetter to our engine and your suggestion of fitting two 36.V.I. downdraught carburetters.

We would like to try these two separate downdraught carburetters and leave it to you to submit to us a suitable design for induction manifold. We would suggest that in your design you aim at keeping the induction piping as short as possible between carburetter and cylinders, as past experience has shown us that this considerably helps us to obtain a high torque characteristic at low speeds without sacrifice at the high RPM.

With regard to the proposed lay out for the 36.D.U.P. model you are preparing, we should be glad to have this at your earliest convenience.

Yours faithfully,

For Rolls-Royce Ltd.
