48940 Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre. France. To: "HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}" From: G.W.Hancock. -------------------- We have received your letter of the 15th May, 1925, stating that the car is to be kept running. We will try, as you suggest, battery only if we note points burning. At the present time they are O.K. The weather here has turned out very hot, consequently the water is on the point of boiling. The oil gets as fluid as petrol, and we should not be surprised if we have further trouble. Oil pressure when cold is 20 lbs. drops to 18 lbs. normal running. at slow speed it drops to 10 lbs. - this is when the oil is very hot. We have noticed on the run that if we maintain over 60 m.p.h. for say 30 miles, the oil consumption is no better than any of our previous results. actually at these speeds the consumption works out at 81 m.p.g. approximately. We have tried this over one of our fast stretches when the oil was hot. On our give and take run the oil consumption is as stated in reports. We would like you to give, if possible, a definite date when to return, as apart from the men's desire to know, it gives us a chance re ordering material etc. We require a book of Time Sheets, now that we are staying.
