P.III Enclosed Limousine, 38-EX.

With reference to your letter, E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/MN, of the 13th inst. to Park Ward, the position about the Berkshire 2-bladed wiper is as follows :-

(1) We were advised in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.15/JH.6.8.36 that it was desired to test out this wiper and that, if possible, a sample should be fitted to Car No. 38-EX. We were asked to obtain certain dimensions from the coach-builders for the information of the wiper manufacturers.

(2) In pursuance of this request, we put the wiper makers and the coach-builders in touch and gave the former all the help we could. They made up a wiper which they submitted to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Em. by whom it was sent on to Park Ward in the hope that it would be possible to mount it on the body they have in hand for 38-EX.

(3) But, as explained in Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders}8/MK.12.10.36, a copy of which was sent to you, Park Ward found there will be insufficient clearance between the front edge of the steering wheel and the screen glass for the inside blade of the new wiper, and we have suggested that the 2-bladed wiper might be tried on the body which Park Ward are about to start for E4.G.6 or the body Barkers are to produce for an experimental P.III chassis.

We agree with you that the 2-bladed wiper may not prove to be a success, but we think it worth while trying because we have a certain number of enquiries concerning the best method of dealing with condensation on the inside of the screen and we think this a problem which has got to be tackled sooner or later, so that it is worth while trying any device which offers to prove a solution.

Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}
