Dear Sirs,

Re 38-EX. Enclosed Limousine Phantom III.

This is to confirm that you will let us know whether you have received any instructions to fit a 'Berkshire' triple-blade wiper to the above car from Sales, as we have no record of this.

We see no reason why this should not be fitted if it is desired, but there may not be room between the steering wheel and the screen glass to allow clearance between the inner wiper blade and the thickness of the driver's hand.

The writer's personal opinion is that since the screen should be as close to the steering wheel as possible in order to ensure good visibility in fog and rain, the fact that this wiper pushes the screen forward by 1" is a disadvantage of considerable importance.

There also appears to be some doubt whether the inner blade will succeed in dealing with condensation on the inside of the screen as the mist on the glass forms very rapidly. This will be settled by experience.

There is also the point that the inner blade has to work on a semi-dry glass with insufficient water to act as lubricant, and therefore the power of the motor has to be higher than that of the motors for the ordinary outside dual wiper.

We hope to send you the trimming instructions for the above car in the course of a day or so.

Yours faithfully,

For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
