For this test a number of lamp holders were arranged on a vertical plank and all connected in parallel between two bus bars. The plank was arranged by means of guides so that it could be lifted a small distance (but not greater than .250") by means of a cam on the spindle of a motor and then allowed to drop to the floor periodically, at an average of about two or three drops per second. The amount of fall could be varied, also the severity of the shock, by placing rubber pads of different thicknesses under the low end of the plank. The first few tests were carried out with an amount of vibration or shock which we afterwards decided was too severe. Further, we had considerable trouble with the holders which were used, these being the ordinary batten holders of rather inferior quality. We found that on the whole the holders failed more readily than the lamps. Some batten holders of rather better quality were therefore obtained and a fresh start was made. The test was this time started with the following lamps in circuit :- 2 B.T.H. Mazda 12 volt 24 watt, half watt type head lamps. 2 Osram 12 volt 36 watt O.M.F. head lamps. 2 Royal Ediswan No.11 12 volt 36 watt medium head lamps. 2 12-14 volt 12 watt Mazda side lamps. 2 12 volt 12 watt Osram side lamps. 2 12 volt 12 watt Royal Ediswan side lamps.
