Dear Sirs, BENTLEY REAR AXLE PINION BRG: With reference to your valued communication of the 24th ult. regarding the above and the question of using a larger bearing, we are enclosing copy of our drawing S.5595.B. outlining our proposal, and as mentioned during our telephone conversation of this afternoon, this bearing has a capacity of 1,400-lbs. for journal loading and 1,610-lbs. for thrust, whereas the bearing at present in use, our 6/MDJT.30, has a journal capacity of 1,120-lbs. and a thrust capacity of 1,290-lbs. You will note that the contact angle is 35°, and with the added pre-load this bearing should certainly give a decided improvement in serviceability. Regarding the slots in the face of one of the outer rings, these will not now be necessary in view of the fact that you will arrange on this new axle for a complete circulation of oil through the bearing, and we believe that all the other points are clearly shown on our drawing.
