CARBURETTER FREEZING.

We were troubled with the carburetter freezing in the early morning, the test house temp. being 10.50C, but this was obviated by restricting the air from the cooling fan and screening the carbs.

Full throttle at commencement of 10 hours 452.9 C/BHP.
Full throttle at end of 10 hours 456.0 C/BHP.
Average fuel cons. .51 pints/BHP.hr.
Average oil cons. 7.0 pints/hr.
Temp. rise cooling water. 120C.
Temp. rise oil. 60C. Pressure. Main 68 lbs/in2 Relief 3.5 lbs/in2
Petrol pump average delivery. 90 gals/hr.

Petrol pump average deliver. 88 gals/hr.

ADDITIONAL OIL LEAKS.

(1) Cylinder holding down bolt rubbers between 5 and 6 B cyl. also on A side ditto.
(2) A & B. bevel housing joints to wheelcase for camshaft drive.

4th 10 hours (Hangar).

The engine was transferred to the hangar and fitted with a 4-blader pusher propeller trimmed to give 2100 r.p.m. when the engine was throttled to the same position as when showing 430 BHP. at 2100 r.p.m. on test bed.

Full throttle rpm. at commencement 2200 r.p.m.
Full throttle rpm. at end 2120 r.p.m.
Average fuel consumption. .51 pints/BHP.hr.
Average oil consumption. 1.75 pints/hr. Main pressure 77 lbs/in2, Relief 5.
Temp. rise water. 100C.
Temp. rise oil. 60C.

The rise in oil pressure may be put down to the fact that the running temp. of the crankcase and oil
