FALCON X. 100 HOURS TYPE TEST. X3196

Engine used :- X.F.13.

Power Curve.

A power curve prior to the type test was taken in accordance with the A.I.D. requirements, the figures obtained appear in the graphical curve herewith.

100 hrs. Endurance Run. (in ten 10 hour continuous runs).

This was run with the engine throttled to 430 BHP (9/10 x 480) at 2100 r.p.m. A full throttle reading was taken at 2100 r.p.m. at the beginning of each 10 hour continuous run so as to give us a comparison with the readings obtained during the last 5 minutes of each run which are carried out at full throttle.

The following conditions were arranged :-
(1) 2 lbs. depression at intake of cooling water pump.
(2) Petrol pump suction against depression of 8.5"Hg delivery 12' head.

1st. 10 hours Continuous on Test Bed.

Full throttle at 2100 r.p.m. Power 456 CHP. at commencement. 458.7 CHP. at end of 10 hours.
Average fuel consumption .52 pints/BHP.hr.
" oil " 8.0 "
Temp rise cooling water 12°C.
" oil " 8.0. Pressure Main 68 lbs/in2 Relief 2.75 lbs/in2
Petrol pump average delivery 94 gals/hr.
Cooling water circulation at 2100 r.p.m. 58 gals/mt.

OIL LEAKS.
(1) A small quantity of oil flowed from the breather proper whilst a fairly extensive leak occurred from round the nose casing bolts on either side of the breather.
(2) Camshaft telescopic tubes covering drives leaking badly at sliding joint.
(3) Magneto flange joints on to wheelcase.
