and sometimes forces the shock absorber link under the frame, with the result that a bump at that moment forces the top of the link against the under side of the frame, and bends the little cantil-ever bracket on the axle to which the lower end of the link is attached. Mr.Hives has dealt with this in a separate note.

I find with this chassis no inclination for the back axle to jump across the road when taking a curve on a bad road, and on a straight bad road one feels perfectly safe at high speeds I am inclined to think that quite a good deal of this advantage comes from the split springs. The roads were in many cases very bad as regards potholes, and sometimes as regards loose surface, and on inspecting the tyres I was surprised to find that they were in extraordinary good condition both front and rear.

The front wheels were fitted with Dunlop Magnums and on the back the Dunlop Grooved and one Dunlop Non-Skid. One would of course expect that a car which holds the road well would be easier on tyres. The Magnum tyres fitted to the front wheels appear to render the steering rather less free, and this, I think, is perhaps desirable, although largely a matter of taste.

This car seems to be entirely without body squeaks and rattles, and gives one a very good impression as regards ease of riding on bad roads.

ELECTRIC EQUIPMENT. The wiring on this car was not finished in accordance with our standard proposals, and had only a temporary junction box. The electrical wiring was completed as regards the starter motor and main switch leads. No trouble was experienced with the exception of the failure of the battery ignition. This fault occurred after about five hundred (Contd)
