X.272 RE EXPERIMENTAL WORK.

Attached is a report giving the progress of new and experimental work. After consultation with Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}, Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}, By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}, EFC. and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, it has been agreed that we send to you every fortnight a report on the progress of new and experimental work. This report will give particulars of:-

1. Completed designs and instructions received from W.W.
2. Designs carried out at Derby.
3. Details of experimental parts issued by Production D.O.
4. Experimental pieces manufacturing.
5. Experimental tests carried out.
6. Electrical experimental tests.
7. Standardisation sheets issued.

It is not proposed that this report should be a complete list of every detail of work carried out in the various Technical Departments at Derby, but the chief object of it is to let Mr. Royce know what the various departments are concentrating on, so that he can have an opportunity of criticising what is being done and the urgency of this work. This report will also provide the means of finding out easily and quickly where any jobs are stuck. It will also show at a glance what proportion of the work carried out is on the 40/50 chassis.

(contd).
