1116 1044 ? To - Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Copy to Mr.Spooner. Lr{Mr Ellor}/HWS.4/JS.{Mr Johnson's Secretary}12.7.39. Re. Crankshaft Torsiograph Tests on Engine B.80 No.2. Two series of the above tests covering full throttle running from 1000 to 4400 R.P.M. were carried out on 7th and 8th July last. At the conclusion of the first series it was found that the damper was loose on the shaft, and following the second run examination of the leaf springs in the damper revealed that a large proportion of these elements had failed, again rendering the component more or less inoperative. c However, it was apparent that our latest Seismic electrical torsiograph is a satisfactory instrument for this type of work, and we shall be glad to repeat the tests when the engine is again available with the damper in correct operation. The records from the first series are to be analysed in detail as it is expected that these will approximate to the undamped condition. ----------- HWS. Lr{Mr Ellor}/HWS. | ||
