The stoppage that caused the body to be fractured in two places can in no way be attributed to the normal stress imposed by the functioning of the gun. This was caused by the next round being incorrectly presented to the pusher. The pusher on rotating gouged its way into the underside of the case and in so doing caused an excessive side pressure on the body of the gun. - See modifications 12 and 15. Appendix C.

6. Conclusions.

It is thought that the functioning of the gun will be greatly improved, after the modifications detailed in Appendix C have been carried out.

The gun is by no means fit for adoption into the service in its present form, but appears to have possibilities after more development work has been carried out.

7. Recommendations.

The uneven impression made on the base of the case by the ejector, suggests that the case is not held in a positive manner on the face of the breech block.

The breech block should be modified as requested in C.I.N.O.'s report, ref. 4276/41. Para. 5(d). (Copy forwarded to you 1.5.41).
