X4021 EFC2/AD. 17th December, 1929. X430 Messrs. North & Sons, Ltd., Whippendell Rd., Watford. Dear Sirs, We would like to refer to one or two miscellaneous points taken up with you during the visit of Mr. West and the undersigned. (1) We suggested for your investigation, whether magneto contact sparking occurs at make or break, or whether an appreciable amount of sparking occurs at make. This would be ascertained by means of a ring fitting with two diametrically opposite lobes, which fitting could be turned round in front of the contact breaker to any position. In one position the contact points could be eclipsed from vision at the time of make, and in another position at the time of break, by this means visual observation would determine at what instants in the two cycles the sparking mainly occurs. (2) We suggested that experiments might be made to determine the most suitable contact pressure of tungsten points. (3) We suggested the experiment of a low speed battery boost for the magneto. This would be more a matter of interest, as we do not now think that it is very suitable for use. (4) We asked you if you could ascertain how much extra range could be provided on the IS.12. magneto without too much affecting the low speed sparking. | ||
