Dear Mr. West, In reply to your letter of April 15th advising us of the difficulty you are still experiencing with the stronger reflector springs on the new headlamps you will be glad to learn that we believe we have found a complete solution to the problem, which however does not lie in producing still stronger springs. Our efforts in this direction were unsatisfactory in so far that to keep the turning moment on the reflector within limits which could be satisfactorily dealt with by the dipper unit and still avoid "dithering" on the road, required very close tolerances on the reflector retaining springs which you will agree will be difficult to maintain in production and in service on account of the heavy weight of spring employed. We feel therefore that it will be very much better to use a separate spring to return the reflector to the normal position and to place the main spring anchorages on the axis of the reflector instead of offsetting them as at present. By so doing we can use any strength of Cont....... Handwritten notes: Top center: 6116 Right side: CAP, Please note & return, WJJ | ||
