Petrol Pumps. Replying to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}7/E.14.9.36. We insisted that before we changed to G.2 material on our petrol pumps it should satisfactorily complete a 15,000 miles test in France. We have learned from experienced that S.U's are inclined to jump about with their modifications in a disconcerting way. You will see from recent correspondence from By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} that they are not altogether satisfied that the G.2 fabric, and cannot let us have any which they can guarantee for another month. The same thing happened with valves, they made us change to Bakelite and now want to go back to brass, the original material. I think we are correct in insisting that once we have standardised a proprietary article, no change should be made until it has passed our standard 15,000 miles test.
