Hanbury - Head Complaints} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWR.19/C.21.12.37. PHANTOM III. SERVICE AND OWNERS COMPLAINTS REPORTED. Faults reported. Starter Motors. Faulty engagement, and entire refusal to engage. Attention given. Cricklewood have tried the following, easing of armature, different setting of main contacts, varied distance of pinion wheel to flywheel teeth, new pigtail fitted, brushes eased, proved that the teaser winding is inefficient when motor is hot. Changed damaged flywheel gear rings, dressed up teeth of others. None of these have cured exceptional cases. The Works have produced a larger pinion, which rolls out projections on the tooth caused by the pinion. At the present moment the Works have got two cars which have given repeated trouble, to investigate. Clutches. Jaggers. The long plate clutch is being fitted to cars with recurrent complaints. Up to date 107 have been fitted. There has been one failure after 221 miles in service. The centre plate was returned to the Works for investigation. Valve Gear. Tappets becoming noisy. There is no known remedy for stopping the wear of the rubbing surface of the tappets. Where the camshaft is damaged it is proposed to fit the latest type camshaft with the hydraulic plungers made solid. Cricklewood Depot has two shafts ready for this modification. | ||
