To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Copy to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Edwards. X1129 E/PSN.4/MN.3.11.36. CAR UNIVERSAL UNIT. Cylinder Block for High Power Head. We send you herewith a print of LeC.5362 of the addition of a coolant jet to the cylinder block on the above unit. This jet is arranged to direct a jet of coolant between the exhaust port and the cylinder bore, and the majority of the coolant should be fed into the block through this jet with only a small bleed through the existing connection at the bottom of the block. The object of this is to improve the cooling of the cylinder wall near the exhaust port, as the recent endurance run has shown that the piston rings gum on this side. If any difficulty is experienced in tapping this connection into the existing block a bush might be brazed in. We also send you a print of RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}337 of the connection itself. We should be pleased if you would apply this to the existing cylinder block as soon as is convenient. E/PSN.
