contd :- -2- and it is very difficult to say which is the car which will be finally produced and sent to France for test. If we attempt to make duplicate cars, it will cause a definite increase in the cost of experimental work. To be of any value, it is necessary that we have criticism early, and it is for this reason we think it is worth while delaying the start of the 10,000 miles test for one week so that Sales can have an opportunity of stating their views on any proposed modification. It is our proposal that the 10,000 miles at 500 miles per day shall be completed as in the past and the other tests will be in addition to this. We think the tests on Alpine passes should immediately follow the 10,000 miles test. At the same time we should like to point out that Alpine Passes are an easy testing ground. My experience over most of the passes in Austria and France shows that they all have very easy gradients because they are the military roads. We think that what CJ. had in mind at that time was tests for over-heating, therefore, if for instance we only alter the front axle on the car it would not appear necessary to delay the standardisation of improvements by taking it to mountain passes to test for over-heating. The Phantom car for the 10,000 miles test in France is being sent to WW. on Thursday. It should be in London on Friday morning. We should like to know where you would like this car to be delivered so that Sales can carry out their portion of the test before it leaves. Contd :- | ||
