10,000 MILES TESTS IN FRANCE. BJ11/E18.6.26. X3993

In our proposed programme for future 10,000 miles tests we endeavoured to reduce the tests to a minimum without reducing the efficiency. Time is a very serious factor during 10,000 miles tests. For instance, on the Phantom car which is now just about to leave for France, is fitted with the new lightened front axle and pivots; the instruction for ordering front axles on production cars is being held up for the result of this test. A decision for ordering front axles will have to be made very shortly. We therefore suggest a week is a reasonable time for the car to be in Sales hands before it starts the 10,000 miles test.

There is no reason why the mileage should be limited to 1000 miles; if Sales can arrange to run 2000 miles in that time, all the better.

Our chief reason for recommending to CJ. that the 10,000 miles test should not be combined with the Sales Dept. test was so that we should not reduce the severity of the test. We attach a copy of Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG29.9.25 which explains this.

We find there are certain difficulties in producing a duplicate experimental car for Sales to be ready at the same time as the experimental test car. As soon as one starts to build a car, there is a continuous stream of alterations, also other instructions are received for further experimental chassis.
