27th. October 1937.

For the attention of Mr. Martin-Hurst.

Dear Sirs,

Further to our letter of yesterday, the writer has now examined the two thermostats which you have tested and sent for his examination. While the distortion on the one tested to 75 lbs/sq.in. is serious, that on the one tested to 50 lbs/sq.in. appears to be very slight. In view of the fact that 30 lbs/sq.in. is the maximum pressure which the unit can get in the car, and only that at maximum revs with the engine cold, the writer is of the opinion that a thermostat strengthened in the same manner as the above two would almost certainly be satisfactory. However, we should like to have a thicker gauge frame and bottom plate (still corrugated) as an additional precaution, and expect to hear from you on this subject very soon.

We would, however, like to have two thermostats with the existing gauge frames and stiffened bottom plates, i.e. exactly as the two tested - to run temporarily. We have also decided that with the reduction in water pressure which we have made we can return to the standard type Vauxhall unit, i.e. with 1¼" valve and no ball valve fitted, the only difference from your standard article then being that we should want a .064 hole in the valve instead of the present one, and a stiffened up bottom plate.

We are returning to you the two units which you have
