[Handwritten Notes] N-W Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Gx at S. 20/1/36 Mr. A bit of a Mystery Dim Br2/S. 17.1.36 (Please return to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}) [Typed Report] re Phantom III - Chassis 35-EX - Trials Car ----------------- The above car was brought to us on the 14th inst. with a complaint of a squeak from the rear which was believed to be from the thrust race of the rear axle. We traced the squeak to the offside rear hub, but upon dismantling this part nothing could be found which could be said to have caused this squeak. We then changed over the rear hubs, fitting the nearside to the offside and vice versa, and on further test the squeak was found to be entirely gone. Up till this test we had not carried out any lubrication of parts, but after the test we opened up the hubs and lubricated all moving parts before final boxing up. We understand that the car has since run 100 miles and the squeak has not returned. Crawford has promised to watch this point and to report to us if there is any recurrence of the squeak. Apart from the above, there was also a complaint of the rear brake actuating mechanism sticking. We found that all the shafts were quite free and we merely lubricated this mechanism generally.
