To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} [Handwritten] X8430 R1/M13.3.26. RE. N.SCH. 2155. X.8430 [struck through] I am not in agreement with altering the .720 worm as now standard. It is for the Works to make them more uniform. They will always wear into a better condition. One feels that a well polished accurate worm is necessary, and that the nut should be cast on the thread, or cast on a good master. We thought a little while ago that the stronger metal coming down between the thread was not necessary: it would be so much simpler without this. Possibly the nut could be longer. Considering that we have the swivelling nut I feel certain the Works have nothing to complain about. It is a good test for oil efficiency, and the castor oil should shew up and have a more permanent film - (give steadier results.) R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
