1306 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Copy to Dr. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} R.H.C. HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} Les - what about the last suggestion Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Front Spring Bracket for Rear Road Springs: Continental Phantom III. Since issuing to you LeC.5450 with our E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/MN. 4.1.37 which gave you a front bracket for the rear road springs having the centre dropped .75" in order to use Phantom II rear road springs F.84582 and F.84654, we have investigated the brake geometry. On LeC.5458 herewith we show the brake geometry of the present Phantom III together with the pumping of the Propeller shaft, and also the brake geometry which would result from the proposed use of the Phantom II road springs with the new bracket. It will be noticed that the foot brake geometry is made fairly considerably worse, in fact 50%. It has to be decided whether this could be tolerated. A further suggestion has been to use the B series Phantom III front end bracket for the rear spring as this has an eye .3" lower than the corresponding bracket for A series. On LeC.5460 herewith we show the following springs superimposed:- (1) The original Phantom III central eyed road spring on an A series bracket. (2) The present standard Phantom III road spring on a B series bracket. (3) The Phantom II road spring with central eye on a B series bracket. It will be noticed that when fitting the Phantom II road spring to the B series bracket the clearance for the spring clip with respect to the frame flange is about as bad as that of the original Phantom III road spring and clip on the A series bracket. | ||
