DY.{F R Danby} FROM HDY.{William Hardy} HDY{William Hardy}1/M13.1.23. C. to S/W.R. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Y.4003 BENSPORT GEARBOX. ACTUATING SHAFTS. We note that the actuating shafts proposed by Derby and shewn by GB.212/3. do not follow our N. sch. 3596., and we presume that the alterations have been made to get more area of shoulder for endwise location. We agree that increased area of shoulder is desirable, and we send herewith N. sch. 3656., which shews what we suggest. We have avoided taper pins through the levers, as the keys cannot be brought into effect without some shearing of the pins. The design we send can be used on existing gearbox castings by slightly shortening the bearings, but eventually alterations should be made to the bosses for the upper and lower bearings as shewn.
