Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} X7941 To [redacted] from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} Notes re 40/50 HP. Chassis 28-EX (1) I found the Steering particularly good - if anything a shade on the light side. (2) The Wright Control was a great addition. (3) The proposed new Dunlop "90" pattern tyres satisfactory. I find little, if any, difference between these and the previous standard, i.e. M.A.2 - the roads I travelled over being wet, but clean; i.e. I encountered no slimy roads. (4) The tap beneath the base chamber for the water heater wants attention. This came open - whether it was struck by a stone, or how, I do not know. The engine was getting unduly heated, and I found it was leaking at this point, and the Radiator wanted 2 gallons to fill it again. I would suggest either a stone guard be fitted, or a more positive tap which cannot be affected by stones etc. (5) The lighting of this car in fog is bad; one sits so far from the Head Lamps, and the windscreen is a fixture. A fog lamp, and provision for switching the two head lamps right out would be a welcome addition. (6) I thought both the engine and gearbox somewhat noisier than usual, but believe this is due to the big Continental mileage they have just done. ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
