PROGRESS REPORT.

F.{Mr Friese} ENGINE TYPE TEST. NO.F. XIV.MS.39.

The fifth 10 hour test on the hangar was completed yesterday.
Amount of running to date 20 hrs. on test bed, 50 hrs. on hangar. total time 70 hours.

Engine continues to run satisfactorily.

Particulars of yesterday's 10 hour hangar test same as before.

Non-stop run, consistency of steady and reliable running maintained. Performance also appears to have been maintained.

Consumptions:-
Petrol for last 10 hours .513 pts. pr.{Percy H. Rose} Hr.
Average from start .528 pts. pr.{Percy H. Rose} Hr.

Oil for last 10 hrs. 6.4 pts. per Hr.
Average from start 5.6 pts. pr Hr.

Freezing up trouble still continues but less pronounced as air temperature rose during day.

Ignition plugs - A.5 inlet plug failed under pressure test during inspection after above test, was replaced.

Single ignition. Rev Drop when running at rated boost for last 3 minutes B.Magneto only 80 RPM. A.Magneto only 110 RPM.

Magneto make and break points unchanged and now remaining at .010"

Slow running satisfactory 320 RPM. Very good general quietness of gears etc.

Slack in gear. This, according to a rough measurement taken, appears to have increased about 25% during the last three 10 hr. hangar tests.

Valve springs O.K.

Compressions checked by feel after above run -
B.1.2.& 3 very good. B.4.5. & 6 good. A.1.2.&3 fairly good, a.4.5.& 6 fair, A.6 being the worst.
