PROVISION FOR LINING UP GEARS. X.411

We are asked to provide some means of end adjustment on the timing gears for the purposes of lining up the gears with each other.

Adjusting washers enabling this to be done do exist on the camshaft wheel and pump drive pinion, but not on the intermediate wheel and dynamo drive.

We shew on the attached print of LeC.2645 how it is proposed to complete the method of adjustment.

The question of the dimension involved and the total variation to be allowed for with the most favourable arrangement of dimensions and limits has not been investigated here, but can be done at Derby.

In looking into the matter it should be noted at the same time that there is sufficient clearance between all moving and fixed parts at each end of the adjustment to be provided.

The original is attc. to BY's copy of this note following a print despatched on the 27th.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
