Dear Bill,

Thank you for your letter of the 7th. I gather that London have sent you a copy of my remarks about the Phantom lll.

Actually the Demonstration car was not big, it would just take four people or five at a squeeze. Nevertheless I have no building large enough to house it, and every time you fill the petrol tank it is a question of getting permission from the Bank.

I can only repeat that I should like a car the size of the Bentley with the performance of the Phantom lll. You should increase the engine to 5 litres, put on independent front wheel springing and Phantom brakes and leave everything else as it is. I should be obliged if you would let me know when such a car is available.

I also think that at the price charged for Rolls Royce products, small-detail conveniences such as defrosters and car heaters, which are normally included on cheap American cars, might with advantage be thrown in.

Did Heywood tell you that I had an involuntary stop on the Bentley on New Year's Day owing to faulty design? He told me that the damaged part was being sent to the Design Department, whether this is the truth or merely to keep me quiet I do not know.
