Judging by the experience we have had with complete cars one certainly feels that low rated springs with our present range of shock absorber control are not very satisfactory for high speed work. At the same time, I had the experience of running a car in France some time ago fitted with low rated springs, on which the shock absorber loading seemed pretty high and which seemed to be quite satisfactory for Continental use. I take the view that we cannot really discard low rated springs - at any rate for the front springing - although we may use the normal springs for the rear. The range of control for the shock absorbers at the front might be increased to advantage; the damping in the minimum position, however, to remain as it is at present. EP{G.
