knock rating:-

Non-leaded fuel (substitute to D.T.D.134) 78 octane.

Leaded fuel 87 octane - both when tested on the C.F.R. engine under the conditions previously mentioned.

You will note we have specified the higher limit for the octane value in each case and should like this to be closely adhered to as our particular tests will be concerned with the rating of the engine in relation to detonation.

We should be pleased to have a specification of the two fuels you are going to supply us and confirmation that the knock rating is up to the above value.

Yours faithfully,

For Rolls-Royce Ltd.
