C O P Y. 'G' Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}2/NJ15.1.24. Re 10,000 Miles Test Run. Whittle Belts for Dynamo and Fan Drives. I return herewith BJ25/H10.1.24. I understand that adjustments to tighten these belts were made when the car had run 1600 miles of the 10,000 miles test; whereas the Instruction Book says "adjust after 2000 miles". It must be remembered that before being put on the 10,000 miles run, the chassis had already gone through its usual test here, which would probably account for 200 miles, making a total of 1800 miles run without adjustment of the belts. Further, I assume that the adjustments were made at 1600 miles more for convenience than for absolute necessity, and that the belts would have run quite safely for a total of 2000 miles without adjustment if it had been thought fit to allow them to remain unadjusted for that mileage. In the circumstances, I do not think any good purpose would be served by referring this matter to the makers of the belts. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} | ||
