COPY. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} BY/RD.1/W.31.12.35. -------- WIRING OF HEADLAMPS. Referring to E.6/HP.20.12.35, we have looked into this matter and suggest the following procedure be carried out :- BENTLEY. The chassis on which failures have occurred. For chassis built. Adopt suggestion (3) in E6/HP.20.12.35, i.e. small extra fuse box, and space for this can conveniently be found adjacent to the wiring conduits on the dashboard. Also, the necessary alteration to the wiring to enable nearside headlamp to be protected by the fuse in this additional box, will be a simple changeover. For future production. We find that we can introduce the distribution board of the Phantom lll. type, together with the unit carrying regulator, cutout and resistance without any alteration to existing arrangement of fitting on the dashboard. Revised drilling would, however, be required. If it is desired to bring this in on 'G' series we should have 'G' and 'H' series material to hold up. 20/25 HP. CHASSIS. No failures have occurred to our knowledge on this chassis. The front end is probably steadier than the Bentley and secondly, P.100 Headlamps are not a standard fitting. It is always possible to fit the small additional fuse box on the dash for cars that are built, but it is not possible to introduce the 'Phantom lll' type distribution board on the existing dashboard without considerable re-arrangement of the adjacent units, the reason being that the distribution board is carried on the offside of the dash and the new unit carrying the regulator, cutout and resistance would overlap space occupied by the starting carburetter control. We propose to prepare a drawing showing how to fit the additional small fuse box on existing Bentley cars to enable such cars to be dealt with as required. and Is it proposed to take similar action on the 20/25 Phantom ll's which are in customers' hands.
