X7772 At Derby. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/LG12.3.29. L.H. 'SS{S. Smith}' HAND BRAKE. When we came to investigate the brake gear on the L.H. chassis, especially in connection with the use of a subframe, we found that the hand brake lever required moving forward a little to give us room for a cross member. It also appeared that with the fulcrum in the original place it would make rather a large slot in the floorboards. We therefore looked into the question of lifting the fulcrum as well, and send herewith N.schs.2846/7 shewing the proposed new position. As originally schemed the bracket carrying the brake lever was a flat plate with a boss at the top and the ratchet underneath. The bracket appeared to be torsionally flexible also not an easy forging. On N.sch.2846 we have suggested a modified bracket and quadrant which appears to us to be simpler and more rigid. The remainder of the mechanism is as now, except for lever length to enable the R.H. differential levers to be used. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
